A New Little Craft!

Hey All,

So my roomies and I decided to buy the HUGE bags of Halloween candy on sale, and proceeded to pig out on it. Needless to say, there were a LOT of left over wrappers. I decided to experiment with them and I figured out a cute way to make ornaments for cheap!

The things you'll need:

- Several Candy Wrappers (I used tootsie rolls because they are easiest to flatten and glue.)

- 1 Sheet of Copy Paper (It doesn't really matter what color I just used white.)

- Rubber Cement (You can use glue sticks but it is more likely to peel off.)

- An X-acto knife (It is just easier to cut things out with them than trying to use scissors.)

- A Self-Healing Cutting Mat (Only if you use an X-acto so you don't harm the table.)

- Imagination! (You will be creating your own individual snowflakes so be as creative as you can!)

Step One:

Take your wrapper and try and flatten it out as best you can.

Tip: If you use the side of your X-acto knife across the wrapper it will help and flatten it out!

Step Two:

Cut off the edges to make them roughly square shaped.

Tip: You can use scissors for this if that is easier for you!

Step Three:
Put rubber cement on both the back of the wrapper as well as the paper you will be sticking it to.
Tip: for rubber cement to stick best coat the surfaces you wish to stick together and let dry before attaching them. (Sounds crazy I know but it works!)

Step Four:
Stick the wrappers to the paper!
Tip: Flatten the wrappers out as you go to get rid of air bubbles for best results.
Tip #2: If you want to make them thicker fold the paper in half so the wrappers match up and rubber cement the paper so that you have two layers wrappers and two layers of paper OR use cardstock.

Step Five:
Cut out the wrappers into individual squares.

Step Six:
Get Creative! Cut out your snowflakes however you see fit! No two snowflakes are the same so make them your own!
Tip: Use an X-acto (or Box cutter) to get the shapes you want!

To Hang:
Use fishing line or clear thin string and a crimp bead to hold them in place!

In Progress Pieces!

Art is subjective. There is no real right or wrong way to create art. There are basic principles usually suggested; and, tips on things like composition, form, line, typography, etc. These aspects of design I have tried to incorporate into my work to the best of my ability. It might be easier to see my view of art if I post some of my own.

This is my Graphic Design V classwork so far this sememster.

The Cultural Poster

The background for this project is that we had to pick a social event or group and create a poster based on concept more than the practical use of it.


Graphic Design V poster for Angelspit.

This poster for the industrial band, Angelspit is a 51" x 36" full color poster. The concept behind it is that the reason I fell in love with their music was the voices Amelia and Karl have. I wanted to portray that aspect more strongly than anything else.

The Social Experiment Poster

The background for this project is that we had to pick a subject that effects a lot of people and has impact using a matrix of images and typography.

Piracy Poster Pre Crit 2
As part of my matrix I tried to go in the direction of neutrality verses subjectivity. Therefore, I chose to just introduce the stats for internet piracy and be as neutral as possible. This was one of the first attempts a show the percentage of people who pirate in the United States.

Piracy Poster Post Crit 2
As part of my matrix I took the subjective approach. This poster represents the 375,000 jobs lost from pirating in the United States in one year. It was approved by the professor and it will be my final piece for this project.

So those are the two projects so far and I will be putting up my illustration work shortly.

Introductions

I guess the plan now is to introduce myself...
Well I guess that is easier than it looks cause I'm having a HELL of a time figuring what to write. I suppose the best, most concise way to do it is a list. (You'll notice over time that I LOVE lists they make things so tidy and neat and easier to read and...well I'm getting off topic.)

Delia is the name. Don't wear it out. Period.
I'm left handed (thought I use things like scissors and my toothbrush with my right.)
Student is the current occupation (as well as freelance graphic designer.)
I am the oldest of four kids.
I love cats. I WILL be the crazy cat lady some day!
I have a boyfriend of almost two years. I love him to pieces (and he's cute too! ^_^)
I have to sleep with a fan on even in the winter.
I like to knit even though my mom is the master knitter.
I want to travel the world some day (even though my dad has traveled a lot of it and hates most of it.)
I love to draw. It's fun to get things down on paper.
I'm just me being weird and goofy.

Hi there you lovely readers!

So, this is my first blog post for fariadesigns. I'm looking forward to this new partnership with the blogging world and I hope that it is ready for me!

In this blog I hope to accomplish a few things:
-Display in-progress designs for my latest projects.
-Show wonderful up and coming artists and work from all over.
-Define my idea of 'DESIGN'.
-And lastly, have a place to just be myself and have a great time!
